About Us

A Bit of Background

Mike and Harriet Joao bought this farm in 1997 and for the next 13 years it was inhabited by their four spunky daughters. When the last of this crazy bunch left home Mike and Harriet noticed the silence and realised the old house needed to be filled with laughter again.
Mike, being a builder by trade, quickly made the changes needed, Harriet did the decor and Chelaya Country Lodge was born.
The family feel is prevalent throughout the house with photographs, antique furniture handed down through the ages, and souvenirs collected on happy holidays across the world. Oregon floors, yellow wood beams, and the most unusual wall decorations set the tone for a relaxed but stylish holiday venue. In keeping with the ‘family’ feel, the bedrooms are named after each of the four daughters and all have queen sized beds and unique bathrooms. A well trained and friendly group of staff are there to make up and turn down the rooms, do the washing up, clean the house, light the fires and to make sure you have everything you require. In the garden are discreet staff to maintain the pool and ensure umbrellas, towels and loungers are provided when the sun is shining.
